150 Celebrations. Gold rush re-inactment
We are all just coming up for breath after an extremely successful celebration weekend to mark the 150th year since gold was discovered in Arrowtown. Labour weekend was full of activities and inspite of threatening weather the events ran like clockwork. From the unveiling of a plaque to mark the discovery of gold, through to the burying of the time capsule every event was well attended. The highlight was the re-enactment of the gold rush on the bamks of the Arrow River. With a cast of 100's it really was a spectacular sight.
For the museum, the opening of our special exhibition on Gold was also a real highlight. Congratulation to Ange English for all the time put into this fabulous exhibition that looks at gold over time, the local history of the Central Otago gold rushes and modern gold mining. There are fascinating artefacts to accompany the exhibtion, which runs in the museum's special exhibtion gallery until February 2013. Do not miss it!
