Description silver tea service

4-piece silver tea service made from sovereigns given to W.G. REES upon his departure from Queenstown in April 1867. Tea set came with an oak box with sections specifically designed to hold the set. Each piece of silver includes an inscription:

"Presented to
William Gilbert Rees Esq.
as a mark of the affection
and esteem of his wellwishers
in the Wakatipu District,
Queenstown
Lake Wakatipu
April 1867"

It has not been determined when the silver tea service was made or where it was purchased before being inscribed.
